The names in this generator start from a Latin or Greek word for the bug, such as vespa (wasp) or aranea (spider). The table below shows each bug type with an example.
| Bug Type | Root Words | Canon Example | Example Name | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beetle | Lucanus (stag beetle), kantharos (beetle) | Dung Defender | Lucanar the Steadfast | Stag beetle, the steadfast |

4 Quick Tips for Naming a Hollow Knight Character
- Keep the name short. Canon names have 1 or 2 syllables, such as Zote, Myla, and Tiso.
- Give the bug a title. Titles do the storytelling, as in Great Nailsage Sly or the Dung Defender.
- Start from the bug. A Latin word for the insect, such as lampyris (firefly), gives the name a hidden meaning.
- Skip canon names. Names like Hornet, Quirrel, and Zote belong to known characters, so the generator leaves them out.
