What Is a Viera?
A Viera is a member of a tall, long-eared race in the Final Fantasy series, known for keen hearing and deep ties to the forest. Viera first appeared in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Final Fantasy XII, where Fran became the best-known Viera. They became a playable race in Final Fantasy XIV with the Shadowbringers expansion in 2019.
Viera live in hidden villages in the woods, and each village guards its own part of the forest. FFXIV has 2 Viera clans, the Rava and the Veena. Male Viera became playable in the Dawntrail expansion in 2024. The FFXIV Console Games Wiki Viera page covers both clans.

How to Name a Viera Character?
A Viera name is a forest name followed by the name of the home village. FFXIV naming notes say Viera forest names resemble Icelandic names, so every forename in this generator is a real Icelandic word. Many Viera drop the village name after they leave the forest. The table below shows the pattern for each clan with an example.
| Clan | Forest Name | Village Name | Example Name | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rava | Icelandic word for nature, light, or animals | Named for groves, oaks, or springs | Hrafna Lundar | Raven, from Lundar, a village named for its groves |
| Veena | Icelandic word for night, snow, or birds | Named for valleys, peaks, or cliffs | Ylva Skuggar | She-wolf, from Skuggar, a village named for its shadows |
| Rava (male) | Icelandic word for trees or beasts | Named for groves, oaks, or springs | Hlynur Eikar | Maple, from Eikar, a village named for its oaks |
| Veena (male) | Icelandic word for ice, birds, or flame | Named for valleys, peaks, or cliffs | Haukur Tindar | Hawk, from Tindar, a village named for its peaks |
4 Quick Tips for Naming a Viera
- Keep the forest name short. Forest names of 1 or 2 syllables, such as Sunna or Logi, fit the FFXIV limit with room for a village.
- Use the village for a Viera still in the Wood. A Viera who has left the forest often goes by the forest name alone, like Fran.
- Match the clan to the setting. Rava villages sit among groves and springs, and Veena villages sit among peaks and cliffs.
- Skip canon names. Names like Fran, Krile, and Jote belong to known characters, so the generator leaves them out.
